St Barts House planning Babies & Toddlers The babies and toddlers are sharing similar experiences for the next two weeks adapted to the variety of their ages. They will be concentrating on using materials to create dens and cosy corners. Each corner will be put together after visiting the library and choosing books that interest the children. The cosy corners will then depict aspects of their favourite stories or rhymes to settle the children and encourage them to find interest in books and stretch their imagination. A variety of resources will be collected over the next 2 weeks which the children can explore. Water will be used to place coloured boats on in the tuff spot which will aid their learning of the French colours and books in different languages will be borrowed from the library to interest the children when foreign books are read to them. Lower Pre-School The children are continuing on their theme of the classic tale of ‘The three little pigs’. Construction will be the focus, looking at how things are built using a variety of materials from cloth, cardboard and bricks. On a smaller scale straws and feathers will be used make simple constructions and the carer will be using a hairdryer to show the children which materials stay up or are blown down the easiest. The story will be read to the children along with songs sung and the children will be learning about pigs too and the colour pink and which colours are required to mix to make pink. Problem solving will be encouraged in trying to make a construction robust enough to not fall down. Pre-School The children will be looking at animals, in particular pets. Children have been asked to bring in photographs of their pets and talk about them in small groups. The children have made an animal hospital with a large x-ray machine which the children can climb inside and then use blackboards and chalk to mark their own x-rays. The children are also learning about staying healthy in relation to healthy teeth and bones, therefore diet will be taught using a variety of produce and the children will be involved in creating their own menu and then cooking or making the dishes to try to encourage the children to taste new foods. A visit from the dentist will also take place where the children will learn all about the importance of brushing and maintaining a good balanced nutritional diet.
