St. Francis, Eagle River “Organized” On Sunday, August 10, - TopicsExpress

St. Francis, Eagle River “Organized” On Sunday, August 10, 2015, the Rt. Rev. Matthew Gunter made his official visitation to the “unorganized” mission of St. Francis, Eagle River. St. Francis Mission was established by Bishop Jacobus as one of his last acts as Bishop in 2013 and began holding services in early 2014. With 38 attending the service, Bishop Gunter announced acceptance of an application of those proposing to become members and thus “organized” a congregation of the Diocese of Fond du Lac. A warden and vestry were appointed. St. Francis continues to experience growth in numbers and spirit. Average attendance is around 20 and continues to grow. 13 persons are in the process of formalizing their membership by moving their baptismal record to St. Francis. 7 others have declaratively joined as “others active in the congregation”, keeping their baptismal membership in other congregations. Many visit the church seeking a joyful worship experience. Last month St. Francis opened a 24-hour prayer chapel and is aware of at least one person who took a bulletin from the chapel and came to church on Sunday as a result. Future plans include permanent signage, a furnace overhaul, organ tuning and cleaning and improvements to the parish hall. The diocese has been very gracious in helping meet financial needs from a fund designated to support the church in Eagle River. 5 key initiatives are planning to launch this Fall: a Caritas Ministry providing support to local people; providing space to Many Ways Of Peace, a local group for the promotion of peace; providing programs with Marywood Spirituality Center – (appropriately enough) a Franciscan Spirituality Center; supporting Parental Support Systems, creating a networking system for working mothers in need of parenting support; and Sunday School. “We have been quite blessed in our first 5 months of operation” the Rev. Geoff Ward, Priest-in-Charge reported to the Executive Council. “There is a committed core of members who are dedicated to spreading The Good News in Eagle River and surrounding areas. Rightly, the group is turning immediately to outreach as the way to make that message clear.” Fr. Ward added that “We believe that Grace happens all the time; and are dedicated to sharing it with all who would welcome it.” All are asked to keep the ministry and work of St. Francis in your prayers.
