St. John matters. The concerns of St. Johnians matter. The issues that affect St. John matter to Senator Tregenza A. Roach. On Sunday, September 14th the Roach Approach bus travelled to St. John as Senator Roach outlined his legislative agenda and met with residents at the Franklin Powell Park. Senator Roach spoke to constituents and shared several of his initiatives that are specifically focused on the vexing issues that affect St. John. “Many of you know that I ran for election twice before I was elected for my first term in the Legislature in 2012. Losing teaches you who your people are—it also teaches you humility, and prepares you to deal with success when it comes.” “In winning, you must decide what best to do with opportunity how to make the very best of a good thing. The good thing here that people have listened to your ideas, to the record of your accomplishments, to your plan for the home places, and have decided to invest in you by voting for you, their best hope for the future. This was my mindset—humility, gratitude, an awesome sense of responsibility with regard to the work ahead.” “One of the first things I did was to carve out a regular office time to be in St. John. It was my way of ensuring that my constituents on this island—those who voted for me and those who did not—could have regular access to me or, at the very least, to one of the trusted representatives of my office in the event that for a good reason, I was unable to come.” “When the federal government’s policy of sequestration resulted in the closing of almost all of the beaches of St. John, I was again summoned by my constituents, my people of St. John. Within days of my public statement about the impact on the local population and on our tourism product as well, the beaches were returned to their public—life-giving use. “I have consistently made it a point to be present—in each instance of legislative action on St. John—including the new exciting entrepreneurial initiative, all the public meetings regarding the Guy Benjamin School in Coral Bay and in the discussions regarding the new marina proposed for that fragile space.” St. John Video Clip #1
