St. Luke the Evangelist Mass Propers: Dedication of the Church of Our Lady of Rheims (405) built by St. Nicasius: Saturday of the Eighteenth Week after the Octave of Pentecost: Saturday of the Third Week of October: Double of II Class, Red: Introit Ps. 138: 16 Mihi autem nimis honorificáti sunt amíci tui, Deus: nimis confortátus est principátus eórum. Right honourable are thy friends unto me, O God: their rule and governance is exceeding stedfast. Ps. 138:1. Dómine, probásti me, et cognovísti me: tu cognovísti sessiónem meam, et resurrectiónem meam. O Lord, thou hast searched me out, and known me: thou hast known my down-sitting, and mine uprising. May Luke, thy holy Evangelist, O Lord, we beseech thee, intercede in our behalf, who for the honour of thy Name bore continually in his body the mortification of the Cross. Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Brethren: Thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you. For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you. And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches; and not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind: avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us: providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you. Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ. Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf. The Gradual and Alleluia Ps. 18: 4 & 1 In omnem terram exívit sonus eórum: et in fines orbis terræ verba eórum. Their sound is gone out unto all the lands; and their words unto the ends of the earth. V. Cæli enárrant glóriam Dei: et ópera mánuum ejus annúntiat firmaméntum. V. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handy-work. Alleluia, alleluia. I have chosen you from the world, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain. Alleluia. At that time, the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. Right honourable are thy friends unto me, O God: their rule and governance is exceeding stedfast. The Secret: Donis cæléstibus da nobis, quǽsumus, Dómine, líbera tibi mente servíre: ut múnera quæ deférimus, interveniénte beáto Evangelísta tuo Luca, et medélam nobis operéntur et glóriam. Per Dóminum nostrum Jesum Christum Fílium tuum, qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitáte Spíritus Sancti, Deus, Grant, O Lord, we pray thee, that by thy heavenly gifts we may be enabled to serve thee in perfect freedom: that, by the intercession of thy blessed Evangelist Saint Luke, the oblations which we offer may effectually work in us for the healing of our souls, and for the attainment of everlasting glory. Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, PREFACE OF THE APOSTLES Vere dignum et justum est, æquum et salutáre: Te, Dómine, supplíciter exoráre, ut gregem tuum pastor ætérne non déseras: sed per beátos Apóstolos tuos contínua protectióne custódias. Ut iísdem rectóribus gubernétur, quos óperis tui vicários eídem contulísti præésse pastóres. Et ideo cum Angelis et Archángelis, cum Thronis et Dominatiónibus, cumque omni milítia cæléstis exércitus, hymnum glóriæ tuæ cánimus, sine fine dicéntes: It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, humbly to beseech thee, O Lord, to forsake not the flock of which thou art the eternal shepherd, but through thy holy apostles ever to guard and keep it, so that it be governed by those rulers whom thou didst establish over it to be its pastors under thee. And therefore with the Angels and Archangels, with the Dominations and the Powers, with all the company of the heavenly throng, we laud and magnify thy glorious Name, evermore praising thee, and saying: The Communion Matth. 19: 28 Vos, qui secúti estis me, sedébitis super sedes, judicántes duódecim tribus Israël. Ye which have followed me shall sit in the throne, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Grant, we beseech thee, O Almighty God, that by the prayers of thy blessed Evangelist Saint Luke, the gifts which we have received from thy holy altar may sanctify our souls to their salvation. Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end.
