St. Matts Big Blue Softball Update: Tonight on a beautiful - TopicsExpress

St. Matts Big Blue Softball Update: Tonight on a beautiful Northern Virginia evening Big Blue rolled to a sweep over a stubborn Mt. Olivet team. In the first game Big Blue grabbed an early lead and never trailed, winning in 6 innings by a tally of 8-5. The nightcap saw Big Blue fall behind early after Mt. Olivet put up a 5 spot in the their half of the first inning. Big Blue’s bats came alive in the late innings and some sterling defense put the game away in a very tightly contested 7 inning affair. St. Matt’s took game two by the score of 10-9. A very good sign in tonight’s games is that there were very few memorable plays, but instead just steady defense and timely hitting. Steve Grimm did make an outstanding over the shoulder grab on a pop-up in game #2 and Joe Sharp hauled in a “big fly” that almost reached the fence also in game #2. We continue to get good performances from our newcomers: Steve with excellent play at SS, Brent with some stellar pitching, Carl with solid play at 3B and a solid stick in the middle of the lineup, Tom Frederick sacrificing his body at 1B, and Maureen with a couple of timely hits tonight. All welcomed additions who are hopefully enjoying their inaugural season with Big Blue. So, for your combined efforts tonight everyone hit the Advil bottle for a little pain relief, put the icey hot packs on your aching body parts, and take next Tuesday off. We return to the diamond on Friday night, 16 May for another double header against Mt. Olivet. Congratulations on a solid performance. Cheers.
