St. Michael’s Catholic Academy was honored to host eight high school girls’ basketball teams from around the state in its annual Christmas Classic December 29-30, 2014. Congratulations to tournament champion St. Stephen’s Episcopal School of Austin and second place winner Trinity Christian Academy of Dallas suburb Addison. The two teams fought an exciting battle in the final game that ended with the Spartans on top 65-48. Tournament host St. Michael’s took third place. Others competing in the Christmas Classic included Antonian College Preparatory of San Antonio, St. John Paul II of Corpus Christi, St. Dominic Savio of Austin, Loretto Academy of El Paso, and Cornerstone Christian of San Antonio. Tournament MVP was awarded to St. Stephen’s senior Britney Adams, who is headed to SMU next year to play volleyball. Before starting their long New Year’s Eve trip home to El Paso, the young ladies from Loretto Academy watched the women’s UT basketball team beat Rice in a fun evening at the Irwin Center. Thanks to everyone who made it a great weekend for women’s basketball in Austin!
