St. Pauls Building Tour The historic Saint Pauls School was opened for a private tour of its interior on Saturday, November 8th. Brian Pinnola, immediate past president of The Garden City Historical Society gave a brief talk. He then showed two large architectural renderings of what the chapel and parlors could look like if renovated in the main entrance and first floor area, about 10,000 square feet. The photos are from the Committee to Save St. Pauls and The Garden City Historical Society. About 25 people were in the group that included Theresa Trouve, Village Trustee from the Central Section; Jason Crowley, Preservation Director of the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities (SPLIA); Robert C. Hughes, Esq., Huntington Town Historian; Gail DiPalma and Patty Siler, representatives of The Stewart Fund (alumni group with St. Marys and St. Pauls Schools); MaryJane Caldwell, Joanne Doherty, Penny Hinderstein, Gloria Jones, Mary Mahoney and Maureen Traxler, Officers and Trustees of The Garden City Historical Society; Maryann Caterino, Manager of the A. T. Stewart Exchange Shop; Suzie Alvey, Garden City Village Historian; Robert Alvey, Founder of the Garden City Bird Sanctuary and other guests. Despite the surface dust and peeling paint, the group admired the magnificent St. Pauls building, with its stately Victorian architecture, chapel with Tiffany windows and hand-carved, beautiful interior woodwork. Photographers feel that St. Pauls is both muse and inspiration for artists. In March 2015 there will be an exhibit on the history of St. Pauls at the Garden City Public Library.
