St. Peters C.S.I Church is the first Christian church in Kangazha - TopicsExpress

St. Peters C.S.I Church is the first Christian church in Kangazha and the nearby villages, established in the year 1864 by the C.M.S missionary and The Apostle of Hills, Rev. Henry Baker Junior. He reached Kangazha in the early 1860s and established a mission centre here. Very soon, as a part of his missionary activities, a congregation of believers was formed in the land of Kangazha. The holy sacraments, worship and other services were conducted in a small shed till the late 1880s. The shed was demolished several times by the heretics and opponents. Later in 1890, a new church, built in the traditional Anglican and Gothic style, was consecrated for worship. For a long period of 120 years, this church remained the place of worship for the congregation till the year 2010. In 2006, foundation stone for the new church was laid and on 2010 December 16, the new church was consecrated by the then Diocesan bishop, Rt. Rev. Thomas Samuel. In the year of 2014, the church celebrated its 150th year (Sesquicentenary) of establishment. https://youtube/watch?v=u7bDAzYpWko&feature=share
