Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Collect for Petitioning the Assistance of All Saints A cunctis nos, quæsumus, Dómine, mentis et córporis defénde perículis: et intercedénte beáta et gloriósa semper Vírgine Dei Genitríce María, cum beáto Joseph, beátis Apóstolis tuis Petro et Paulo, et ómnibus Sanctis, salútem nobis tríbue benígnus et pacem; ut destrúctis adversitátibus et erróribus univérsis, Ecclésia tua secúra tibi sérviat libertáte. Defend us, O Lord, we beseech thee, from all dangers both of body and soul: and at the intercession of the blessed and glorious Ever-Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of blessed Joseph, of thy holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and of all thy Saints, grant us thy saving health and peace; that being defended from all adversities and all false doctrines, thy Church may serve thee in freedom and quietness. O God, the sheperd and ruler of all the faithful, gratiously look upon thy servant Francis, who thou hast willed to be chied pastor of thy Church; grant him we beseech thee, by word and example to profit those over whom he rules, that together with the flock entrusted to him, he may attain to life everlasting. In those days, the Angel Raphael said unto Tobias: It is good to keep close the secret of a king, but it is honourable to reveal the works of God. Do that which is good, and no evil shall touch you. Prayer is good with fasting and alms and righteousness. A little with righteousness is better than much with unrighteousness. It is better to give alms than to lay up gold: for alms doth deliver from death, and shall purge away all sin. Those that exercise alms and righteousness shall be filled with life: but they that sin are enemies to their own life. Surely I will keep close nothing from you. For I said, It was good to keep close the secret of a king, but that it was honourable to reveal the works of God. Now therefore, when thou didst pray, and Sara thy daughter in law, I did bring the remembrance of your prayers before the Holy One: and when thou didst bury the dead, I was with thee likewise. And when thou didst not delay to rise up, and leave thy dinner, to go and cover the dead, thy good deed was not hid from me: but I was with thee. And now God hath sent me to heal thee and Sara thy daughter in law. I am Raphael, one of the seven holy angels, which present the prayers of the saints, and which go in and out before the glory of the Holy One. The Gradual and Alleluia Tob. 8: 3 Angelus Dómini Raphaël apprehéndit, et ligávit dæmonem. Then the Angel Raphael took the devil, and bound him. Ps. 146: 5 V. Magnus Dóminus noster, et magna virtus ejus. V. Great is the Lord, and great is his power. Allelúja, allelúja. V. In conspéctu Angelórum psallam tibi: adorábo ad templum sanctum tuum, et confitébor nómini tuo, Dómine. Allelúja. Alleluia, alleluia. V. Even before the Angels will I sing praise unto thee: I will worship toward thy holy temple and praise thy Name, O Lord. Alleluia. The Gospel John 5: 1-4 In illo témpore: Erat dies festus Judæórum, et ascéndit Jesus Jerosólymam. In his jacébat multitúdo magna languéntium, cæcórum, claudórum, aridórum exspectántium aquæ motum. At that time, there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. The Offertory Apoc. 8: 3 et 4 Stetit Angelus juxta aram templi, habens thuríbulum áureum in manu sua, et data sunt ei incénsa multa: et ascéndit fumus arómatum in conspéctu Dei, allelúja. An Angel stood at the altar of the temple, having a golden censer in his hand: and there was given unto him much incense: and the smoke of the incense ascended up before God, alleluia. Per Dóminum nostrum Jesum Christum Fílium tuum, qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitáte Spíritus Sancti, Deus, We offer unto thee, O Lord, the Sacrifice of praise and humbly beseech thee, that through the prayers of the Angels who plead for us, thou wouldst both graciously accept it, and grant that it may avail us unto salvation.
