Stable News Week Ending 12.12.2014 Another pretty quiet week as the year draws to a close, Michelle has been working extra hours at her catering job and Im sure most people are either on summer holidays or in Christmas shopping mode. Here are a few topics I thought were worth mentioning. CHRIS WALLER - POSITIVE SWAB Interesting news yesterday that champion Sydney trainer Chris Wallers horse Junoob returned a positive swab after winning the Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap in October. I have a very strong view on this subject and it will probably go against most popular theories on social media. No trainer who is respected as highly as Chris Waller would knowingly use frusemide or Lasix as it is known on race day. Frusemide is commonly used by trainers when they gallop their horses as a preventative measure to stop internal bleeding, I think there is currently about a three day withdrawal period on this medication. As Chris has stated in his press release unfortunately it appears that Junoob was administered this drug instead of one of his other horses which were due to gallop that morning. With the level of scrutiny that swabs are tested currently it would be absolutely foolish to think that you could get away with this deliberately. Chris Waller probably has around 200 horses in training and 40 - 50 staff and Im sure this would pose many logistical headaches. Im sure that being the professional that he is Chris Waller will refine his stable practices and ensure it wont happen again....And the conspiracy theorists can go and pick on someone else. There has been another horse disqualified from winning a race locally this week for returning a positive swab sample, however I do not know enough of the circumstances to comment on this matter. TEST MATCH I took some time out with our stable employee Naveen Kumar on Tuesday to watch the first day of the test match between Australia and India at the magnificent Adelaide Oval. It was great to sit high in the Riverbank Stand and soak up the atmosphere, chat to Naveen about different aspects of his culture and enjoy a day out. One thing that impressed me was the conduct of our captain Michael Clarke, he is a very inspirational leader. Although it is not really a passion of mine I dont think this will be the last cricket match that I attend. Cmon Aussie Cmon HAPPY BIRTHDAY. My former apprentice jockey Raygan Rayner is having her birthday today. Raygan shares this day with my niece Rachel Hill who sadly passed away in 2002 from cancer. Rachel was my biggest fan, she loved the horses and all those involved in racing. Not a day goes by that I dont think of her. Both girls were blessed with very cheeky smiles and I was often left wondering what they were up too! Hope you have a great birthday Raygan. HORSE OF THE WEEK. This week I want to highlight a three year old filly named Just One Wish who resumed training on Monday. Just One Wish is by Onemorenomore out of Port of Africa, she has had two trials and two races and I am sure she will measure up to metropolitan class. This magnificent filly is owned by Frank Agostino, Daniel Borg, Roger Drake, Donald McGurk, Jay Morris, Rob Sagasser, Kim & Suzy Sewell, Raymond Spencer, Dario, Ennio and Robert Tarca, Dirk van Dissel and Alan Young. She should be ready to race in February so keep an eye out for her. REVIEW OF RACING THIS WEEK. As mentioned last week we had two youngsters trial at Murray Bridge on Monday. Dark Image ridden by Shayne Cahill won his trial impressively and Beautiful Girl ridden by Jamie Kah ran fourth. I was very pleased with both horses and they will make their debut at Morphettville next Friday at the Christmas Twilight meeting. Both three year olds should be competitive in maiden company. Mrs Mariella is getting over a little setback and she too will run next Friday in a class one handicap over 1200 metres. QUOTE OF THE WEEK. I quite like this one: Youve got to take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what youve got, and remember what you had. Always forgive, but never forget. Learn from mistakes, but never regret Unknown. Until next week friends. Take care. Mark Minervini
