Stacy Skalski, NASPs veteran Director of Professional Policy and Practice, presented Understanding How Adopting the NASP Practice Model Can Transform The Role Of The School Psychologist this morning at the Kansas Special Education Leadership Conference. A summary of her presentation: The 2010 professional standards for school psychologists unveiled a national practice model that articulates a broad based role for school psychologists including prevention, intervention, consultation and assessment services for ALL learners. School psychologists have extensive background training in education, school mental health, data based decision making, prevention, and intervention—all of which can be a valuable resource for schools struggling to reach and teach students at risk for school failure and non-traditional learners. By utilizing an expanded role for school psychologists, valuable contributions to popular school reform efforts that emphasize data-based decision making and learning supports like Multi-Tiered System of Supports, Response to Intervention, and positive behavior supports can be realized. We will provide the link to her presentation once it has been uploaded to the TASN Conference Materials website. Some school psychologists attended this conference, any comments about her presentation?
