Staffordshire Police have today seized a further five vehicles in the latest operation targeting the criminal use of Staffordshire’s roads. This latest operation supporting the Staffordshire Police and Crime Commissioners ‘Cars Behind Bars’ campaign saw a number of police patrols using ANPR technology to target road users across Staffordshire driving without insurance. The operation not only resulted in the seizure of five vehicles, but also three arrests. One male arrested on suspicion of drink driving, another male who was wanted by Cheshire Magistrates Court for failing to appear before them and the third man was arrested on behalf of the UK Border Agency for an immigration offence. All three remain in custody and there vehicles have been seized. Over 30 over drivers face a court appearance in the future for issues including driving without insurance, driving licence or MOT, obstructing the police or defective tyres. Three drivers were also advised about failing to update the DVLA about changes to their home addresses. Chief Supt Jon Drake from Staffordshire Police said “Everyday we take action to keep our roads safe and to target those involved in crime. It’s very clear from today’s operation that driving without insurance is often just the start when the patrol pulls over a vehicle and because of the highly targeted approach using Automatic Number Plate Recognition we can achieve a great deal very quickly.” See a video about Cars behind bars here socsi.in/3oSeZ
