Stage 1 burn ban extended in Okanogan County The state Department of Ecology has extended a Stage 1 burn ban in Okanogan, Franklin and Walla counties until 10 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 20). The ban began on Sunday (Nov. 16). The ban was lifted in Adams, Asotin, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Ferry, Garfield, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Pend Oreille and Stevens counties. Cool, stagnant air conditions are forecast in the region, putting the counties at risk for air pollution to reach unhealthy levels, Ecology said in a press release. Under a Stage 1 ban, all outdoor burning and use of uncertified wood-burning devices is prohibited, including fireplaces, wood stoves and inserts unless they are a homes only adequate source of heat. Prohibited outdoor burning includes residential, agricultural and forest burning. Certified wood-burning devices and pellet stoves are allowed.
