Stalybridge Town Team – achieving our vision Having set the foundations for a future vision for the Town the Stalybridge Town Team is now keen to share widely how that has developed. The Town Team set-out a vision sometime ago and developed it so that in March this year it could be shared, challenged and tested with the people of Stalybridge and we did that in March at our Drop-In event held at the Civic Hall. The consultation feedback was valuable and encouraging and ensures the Vision reflects what local people want of their Town. This feedback has enabled us to complete our Report and to be able now to summarise for all what that means. We promised to provide feedback and this now follows. Our Vision Statement sets the scene ’a great place to live, a vibrant town centre and a leisure destination’ and our adopted slogan that will support this is ‘Stalybridge - Historic canal-side town with a vibrant heart’. These both result from suggestions from those who came along to the Drop-In event. In order to deliver the Town Team led vision, and the supporting objectives, a series of actions will be needed. These will include short, medium and long term projects. In some cases delivery will be led by the Local Authority, by members of the Town Team and local business community, or by private sector developers. The report will help us in a number of ways. These include when seeking financial support for our projects, encouraging new businesses to invest in the Town and being able to share a consistent message of confidence in the future as it shows we have a clear vision of the Stalybridge of the future. It’s worth mentioning that the Town Team has been formed to focus on the ‘core’ of the Town Centre. In other words the retail (Melbourne, Market and Grosvenor Streets) and civic areas (Trinity Street and Armentieres Square including the Civic Hall) and of course the Canal is one of our most important existing assets that we must exploit. The Report sets priorities and informs an action plan. This plan is written around six themes: 1. Movement around the Town and infrastructure 2. Environment and public realm (e.g. open spaces that can be enjoyed) 3. How we can look and feel different to other towns using design 4. Our mixture of types of uses (e.g. shops, houses and cafes) 5. Community and events 6. Communications and business support Finally, our Vision Report provides robust an achievable Vision for Stalybridge. It is now the role of the Town Team to be the driving force to ensure delivery of projects that will make Stalybridge a Town fit for the future.
