Stamp duty likely to see steep rise Congress To Reverse BJPs Sops;Looks To Mop Up Revenue To Fuel Rice Scheme TNN Bangalore: In order to mobilize resources to implement the Congresss flagship scheme of Re 1 per kg rice,which will cost an additional Rs 4,500 crore,the government wants to mop up revenue from all revenue-earning departments. Revenue minister V Srinivas Prasad hinted there may be a steep increase in stamps and registration duty.Besides stamps duty,guidance value of all regions in the state would be increased, Prasad maintained. To keep the realty sector in good humour,the BJP government had reduced stamp duty from 6% to 5%. The Congress is expected to reverse this and may increase it beyond 6%.In his budget in March,Shettar had set a revenue collection target of Rs 6,100 crore from the stamps and registration department for the year 2013-14. Chief minister Siddaramaiahs budget,scheduled to be presented on July 12,is likely to set a target of Rs 1,000 crore more for the current year,besides measures to plug leakages. For the year 2012-13,a revenue collection target of Rs 5,200 crore was fixed for the department. New BDA chairman The state government on Wednesday appointed senior IAS officer PN Srinivasachari as BDA chairman.He was principal secretary,urban development department.The government also appointed housing minister MH Ambareesh as chairman of the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board.TNN
