Standing massively next to the River Danube on a hill.It is so dominant in each quarter of the city that one is tempted to take the castle in, again and again.Even in pre- historic times the hill had its castle or fortifications.Slovakia history is narrowly woven into the history of the castle.It became the castle of the Hungarians during the Turkish occupation of Hungary.The Austrian Habsburg Royals played an important role in relation to the castle.When Maria Theresa became also Queen of Hungary during the Turkish occupation she took residence in the then Pressburg castle.
