Staples Wins Statewide Televised Debate, Proved Why He Is In A Position To Join Incumbent In Runoff Election DALLAS — Todd Staples, Texas Agriculture Commissioner and candidate for Lieutenant Governor, demonstrated to voters tonight why he is the best candidate in the race during a statewide televised debate. Staples was the winner between the four candidates for Lieutenant Governor as he laid out his Contract with Texans and explained to voters why Texas needs new leadership. “The debate was a clear opportunity for voters to see how I will fight to secure the border, create jobs and improve our education system,” Staples said. “I have a record of results and have signed a Contract with Texans, so voters can hold me accountable as their next Lieutenant Governor.” The debate was hosted by KERA-TV and televised in media markets across the state. During the debate, Staples made it clear he is the only candidate in the race with a six-point immigration plan that starts with border security and does not include amnesty. He has also delivered record setting tax cuts, stood up for private property owners’ rights and sued Obama’s EPA to stop job-killing mandates. The debate offered a great opportunity to demonstrate the major contrasts between Staples and incumbent David Dewhurst. “The current Lieutenant Governor has never seen a dollar he doesn’t like to spend, is out of touch with Texas voters, and has lost the ability to lead,” Staples said. “I have a proud record of accomplishing conservative results, and voters have my specific Contract pledging how I will continue this record as Lieutenant Governor – keeping the Texas of tomorrow from turning into the California of today.” Staples has a large and growing coalition of statewide grassroots supporters that includes more than 100 leading members of the Texas Federation of Republican Women, Tea Party leaders, Young Republicans and top business leaders across Texas. Staples also leads all Lieutenant Governor candidates in finances.
