Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope dubbed into the Navajo language is available now at FoxConnect: bit.ly/NavajoANewHope The Navajo Nation Museum has collaborated with Lucasfilm and Fox Home Entertainment to provide its community with a Navajo-dubbed Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope DVD. In December 2013, the Navajo Nation Museum received 1,500 DVD copies of the Navajo-dubbed film from Lucasfilm and Fox. These DVDs, however, sold out in two days and left hundreds, if not thousands, of Navajo people wanting copies. Now thanks to FoxConnect’s digital reach, every Navajo community, including those housing indigenous tribal members, has access to this treasured film. The Navajo people, whose population is estimated at 350,000, are able to enjoy A New Hope from their own living rooms in their own language. Wheeler added, “I hope this historic Navajo-dubbed film and its distribution will send a message that the Navajo language is alive and strong. I want to get it into the hands of our Navajo elders and children and anyone who respects our language. It might even inspire the younger generation of Navajo people to learn their language; moreover, other people might become motivated to learn their own language, whatever that might be.” This film, he says, could be A New Hope in many ways.
