Start from the last episode of yesterday Wednesday,14/8/2013 3. GROOMING THE YOUTHS FOR THE FUTURE: UNCOMPROMISED REMEDY. To really prepare the youths against negative peer pressure, we have to consider the dual ways to the remedies. (i) The parent’s responsibilities and (ii) The youth attitudes. These are the basic requirements that bring out the will of God. (i) THE PARENT’S RESPONSIBILITIES: One of the beauties of parents is that they are the first teachers a child has. The responsibilities of parents over a child begin right from the birth of a baby. These responsibilities are categorized into (a) Primary and (b) secondary responsibilities (ii) PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Reasonable and concern parents will enforce disciplines through the under listed items on their children as no child would like to willingly accept sound instructions and discipline. “Foolish ways are deep-seated in the heart of a child, but the rod of punishment will send them far from him” Prov.22:15 (DBY) (a) Prayers: We all know what prayer is. This is one of the greatest primary assignments of parents over a child against negatives peer pressure even before the child grows up. As parents are expected to be on their knee, praying for the children, so also they have to teach each the children the efficacy of prayer so that the children will know that they cannot do with prayers. (b) Interaction: This is another primary work of good parents. It is very important that parent move very closely to their children. This will enable them to know and understand the characters of their children and know how to deal with them. Any parents who distance themselves to their children has created vacuum of good relationship, communication and rapport. You will be able to teach a child well when you are very close to such a child. We all know what the effect of distancing ourselves to our children can be.
