Start the new year learning something new! tinyurl/watsu1Jan14 In the first stage of Watsu® 1, you learn Watsus Tai Chi-like Basic Moves and positions and how, staying grounded and connected with the breath, you can let the water do the work. In its continual return to the Water Breath Dance, you find the stillness that is the ground of presence. In the second stage you learn to connect these basic moves and positions with long gracefully flowing transitions into the Transition Flow. You learn to adapt this to people of all sizes, shapes and dispositions. You learn about your own body mechanics - how to support and move each person as effortlessly as possible in the water. On land you will be introduced to both Co-Centering and Tantsu and explore and share what being held means to you and others.. Watsu® 1 can be taken as a first class in aquatic bodywork or as an elective in a certification program or as continuing education. Instructor Peggy Schoedinger (pronounced Shed-ing-er), is an internationally acclaimed physiotherapist (physical therapist) who has taught over 600 courses across North America, South America, Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe, including Bad Ragaz, Switzerland. Peggy originated and developed the Clinical Watsu program, including Watsu 3: Free Flow Adapted for Clients With Special Needs. This program focuses on adapting Watsu for working effectively with special needs populations. She is the only physiotherapist in the world who is a certified Watsu instructor for Watsu 1, 2 and 3. And she is one of only four instructors internationally who is qualified to teach and certify other Watsu instructors. Additionally, Peggy is an acknowledged master of multiple approaches to aquatic therapy and aquatic bodywork from six continents. She blends all these techniques into a comprehensive approach that is uniquely hers. Instructor Greg Ching began taking drop-in Watsu® classes taught by Elaine Marie on Saturday mornings at Harbin Hot Springs in the 1980s but didnt formally take a Watsu class from Watsu creator Harold Dull until 1994. By then, he had received his Basic Massage Therapist certificate from the Palo Alto, California Body Therapy Center in 1990 as well as additional coursework at the Big Sur, California Esalen Institute. Greg received his Watsu Practitioner certificate from the Harbin School of Massage & Shiatsu in 1995. Gregs focus is primarily Watsu adapting the principles of Phenomenal Touch® massage to water. Greg is certified to provide Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association (WABA) supervisions, assist WABA classes, teach 4-hour Watsu Introductions, and instruct 16-hour Watsu Basic classes.
