Started on a new book this afternoon. It is Shifting Shadows by Patricia Briggs. Its a collection of short stories connected to her Mercedes Thompson series. These short stories sort of fill in the wholes in plot or some background history that was mentioned in the series but were never discussed at length or any detail. Therefore in this book Patricia Briggs goes back and fills in those wholes in plot and does an interesting job in filling in some background history about some of the main characters. For example, in the first short story she tells the story of how Bran and Samuel came to be werewolves. While it was definitely some interesting background information, a good story, she ended that one on a bit of a cliffhanger and I hope later in the book she has a short story filling in the history that is left out of that story. In any case I am enjoying the book. I have always liked her fantasy writing even though Im not much of a fan of the fantasy genre as a rule. I think it is because most of her books are set in modern day settings with the likes of vampires, fae, werewolves, and so on living and hiding in plain sight of the unknowing human population. It is kind of an interesting blend of fantasy and technology combined with funny and sometimes interesting characters.
