Started the junior ZDK class with kata, drills and fundamentals to warm up, then changed pace by running a circuit for the kids. It comprised jumping, skipping, punching, elbowing, kneeing, kicking, a traditional strike from kata, crawling through obstacles, flying sidekicks, stance transition drills and leaping, rolling, forward breakfalls. Designed to develop their skills, as well as their balance, co-ordination, timing and focus, the kids had a great time racing each other as well as trying to beat their own times. We did video it, however we might re-visit some aspects of the circuit to refine their technique before posting............ The overall message tonight was that for kids, learning karate should be fun, that it is not all serious all the time. The pleasing part for me was seeing the improvement in all of the students at the parts of the circuit that each one had difficulty with. Mission accomplished!
