Started thinking, how much do safety net programs actually cost me? A lot of people get really upset about them. I am not talking about retirement programs because believe me I intend to draw my SS but the rest. So I took the taxes we actually paid, took 13% which is the accurate amount of the budget that is safety net like food stamps divided that in half because there are 2 people of working age in our family even though Jim works out of the house and I do the rest. So that turns out to be $9.48 per week for me or about 19 dollars a week for both us. Probably about a quarter of that has some sort of fraud. Less than $2.50. I can live with that. Maybe if I were one of the Koch brothers it would challenge me a bit more. I gamble $18 a week, so if I only feed one kid, or one veteran or one old person with our $19.00 I am really good with that.
