Starting in January, seniors will see a 1.7 percent increase in their Social Security benefits. This amounts to an extra $22 per month on average. The increase reflects an increase in the cost of living, as measured by the governments Consumer Price Index. Tying Social Security benefits to inflation is a boon to Social Security recipients.
