Starting this Sunday, Im going to be hiking the John Muir Trail - TopicsExpress

Starting this Sunday, Im going to be hiking the John Muir Trail from the northern terminus (Happy Isles) to the southern end (Whitney Portal). The trail is about 220 miles and crosses the vast and dramatic High Sierras, with their granite cliffs and 13,000 to 14,000 ft peaks. It will be my first time. I feel tiny contemplating that. Ill start on Sunday morning, and hope to be done in 1 week or sooner. Its been a busy week, but obviously this trip has been on my mind. The week has been overwhelming in its busyness. Not unpleasant, just incredibly busy. My mind has been numb, then swirling. The time on the JMT will be challenging, but also an opportunity for some peace of a different kind than I get even on quiet evenings at home. Its funny how we sometimes look to things that are the most physically challenging to provide us with some measure of peace or spiritual release. I have heard it stated before that serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm. This weekend I move forward, seeking peace amid the storm. Shoot, I seek that now too. I should keep packing!
