Starting to see a disturbing trend in the never-ending pursuit of a literary agent. For years they at least had the human decency to send you back a rejection letter (Best of luck in finding representation elsewhere -- that sort of stuff). Then, about five years ago, they stopped with the full-page form letters and started sending little scraps of paper that they could make ten of from a single sheet of paper. These basically said some variation of No. Go away. Now, finally, I am seeing on their web sites and directory listings, If you dont hear from us in three months or so, just assume were not interested. We are no longer going to actually go to the trouble of acknowledging that you exist. At this point, I just wish they would either remove themselves from all directories, or at least add to their listing We DO NOT want to hear from you unless youve already won a Pulitzer Prize or National Book Award on your own.
