State Police: Search Continues for Remains of Jamie Lusher BECKET, Mass. (WGGB) — The head of the Mass. State Police says that work continues to find any remains of remains of a teen that went missing over 20 years ago. Teams from the New York State Police and Mass. State Police have been on the water of Greenwater Pond in Becket since Tuesday looking for the remains of Jamie Lusher. State Police Col. Timothy Alben says that that work will continue through the afternoon on Thursday. Alben says that at this point, his agency has “nothing to report in terms of any recovery of any evidence.” Lusher, who was 16-years-old at the time of his disappearance in November 1992, went on a bike ride from his parent’s Westfield home towards his grandmother’s home, but never made it to the destination. Earlier this week, Hampden County District Attorney Mark Mastroianni announced that convicted killer Lewis Lent had confessed to abducting and killing Lusher. Lent is currently serving life in prison, without the chance for parole, for the death of a Pittsfield boy, James Bernardo, and the disappearance of 12-year-old Sara Anne Wood of New York. Information obtained during the investigation has indicated that Lusher’s remains may be in that Becket pond. Despite the fact that divers haven’t yet found anything that might be related to the decades-old case yet, Alben says the State Police remain committed to the task. “This is a crime that is purported to have occurred almost 21 years ago and so I compare this to looking for a needle in a haystack, except quite frankly, we find needles in haystacks very frequently in this business,” Alben noted. Thursday is set to be the final day of searching by divers. If nothing is found today, Alben says that State Police will “regroup” and “restrategize” the operation. “The point being that we are not abandoning our operation here, but rather, we are going to refocus it,” Alben adds. ABC40′s Brendan Monahan is in Becket, and will have the latest as it becomes available, on-air and online. wggb/2013/07/18/crews-resume-search-for-remains-of-jamie-lusher/
