State govt to provide more buses, ration shops in hills Siliguri, 29 Aug 2013: North Bengal Development minister Gautam Deb today announced more public buses would be provided to ease transport in the hills and more ration shops opened for food grain distribution. A control room is being opened at the North Bengal Development Department and it is expected to start functioning from August 31. Deb said officials in charge of the transport service and ration stores would operate from the control room. Speaking to the press, the minister said the control room would function until the ‘Bhai Phota’ festival that is observed after Diwali. He further said six more public buses would be added to the 16 buses already operating in the hills. Eleven ration shops have been opened and the government will soon start 39 more. Transport facilities would be provided to school students and guardians and to ferry passengers to the airport and the railway station, added Deb. (EOIC)
