State leaders believe the aerospace industry is soaring to great heights in Indiana, powered by a series of heavy-hitting investments. Alcoa recently broke ground on a $100 million facility in LaPorte to make jet engine parts, and GE Aviation is investing the same amount to build a jet engine assembly plant in Lafayette. Recently, GE announced it will also be a private investor in a $36 million engine component research center at the University of Notre Dame, a facility its leaders say will be the nations premier destination for research and ignite even more business in Indianas aerospace sector.
