State of TENNESEE Fire Marshal’s Office 2013 Poster Contest Guidelines 1. The poster contest is open to all students in grades Kindergarten through 12th. One statewide winner will be chosen from each grade. One winner will also be chosen by the Commissioner of Commerce and Insurance as the Commissioner’s Choice. This will give us a total of 14 winners this year. 2. Posters must be original work of the students and must follow the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) annual theme, which is “Prevent Kitchen Fires.” Fire Prevention Week is October 6-12, 2013. 3. Posters may be any size and may be drawn, colored, painted or three dimensional. 4. All entries MUST have the following on the back of the poster: • Child’s name • Child’s complete home address • Child’s home phone • Grade • School’s name • Teacher’s name • Fire department’s name • Fire department’s address • Fire department’s phone number • Fire department’s contact person For your convenience, we created the enclosed form with all of the pertinent information that is required to be displayed on the back of each poster. Please feel free to copy, cut, and use as needed. Hopefully, this will help to ensure that posters are not disqualified due to lack of information. NOTE: Omission of any of the above information will be grounds for disqualification. Please make sure to check for this information before submitting the posters to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. 5. All entries must be submitted to the homeroom teachers by September 20, 2013. 6. All homeroom teachers must select a winner from their class and deliver it to the school’s principal by September 27, 2013. 7. Principals must select one winner for each grade, K-12, by October 2nd, and then forward the winning posters to their sponsoring fire department(s) who may display them during Fire Prevention Week October 6-12, 2013. 8. Fire departments must then have their winning posters submitted to the State Fire Marshal’s Office no later than November 29, 2013, for statewide judging. If a fire department has entries from multiple schools, the fire department will need to judge and select one winner from each grade level to submit to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Please submit entries to the following address: State Fire Marshal’s Office Attn: Claire Marsalis 500 James Robertson Parkway, 10th Floor Nashville, TN 37243 9. State judging will be held the week of December 9-13, 2013, in Nashville. Winners will be notified (after the Fire Chief’s notification) soon after that date. A list of winners and pictures of the winning posters will be posted on the State Fire Marshal’s website. The statewide winners chosen will each receive a First Place ribbon, a certificate of achievement from the Governor, $50 cash, and a free night’s stay at the hotel in Nashville where the Poster Contest Banquet will take place in February.
