State of War Most people don’t realize it, but our bodies are - TopicsExpress

State of War Most people don’t realize it, but our bodies are in a perpetual state of war. We are a marvelous design. The purpose of that design is to protect our bodies from times of hunger and hardship by storing fat. Now we have to fight back to keep that protection system from overpowering us and turning our bodies into a prison. Human beings once had a nomadic lifestyle. We followed the food and escaped the weather. We were continually on the move. There were times that we went for weeks without food, but our bodies knew this would happen, so it stored fat to carry us through. That fat sustained us in our times of famine. Now plenty of food is always available and those times of hunger and hardship are over for most of us. Our body doesn’t know that the hard times are over, so it’s still trying to protect us by continuing to store fat that we no longer need. The muscle cells move our body and do all the of the work. They must share their nutrition, air supply and blood with the fat cells. In addition they must also move the fat when they move the rest of the body. Every pound of fat we put on is another pound the muscles must carry. Each of those pounds must be nourished and take even more of the limited oxygen and blood. There can come a point where you and your muscles are simply supporting your fat. You can become enslaved in your own body. The weapon we have to take back our body and our life is movement. It’s time to start thinking of running and walking miles as the battles in the war your body is fighting. Your muscles are trying to win back the ground they have lost over the years. But don’t think for a moment that those battles are going to be easy. Your opponent, those stores of fat, are battle hardened and used to winning. You have been fighting them for a long time and losing the war. Perhaps the time has come to start leading your army of muscle cells instead of allowing them to be defeated. You need to get on the right side and stop aiding your enemy. Those fat cells can’t win if you don’t allow them to. You go out to exercise and do that first slow mile, your muscles are warmed up and ready to fight. But instead of allowing those warmed muscles to do battle, you stop and go have something to eat! That is how most people do and why they fail. It takes about 20 minutes to warm up, but many training plans only call for doing 20 minutes of exercise 3 or 4 times a week. Remember this: Effective exercise starts when the muscles are warmed up. Once your muscles are warm, then the next 20 to 30 minutes are when you are going to accomplish something. Work up to where one of your exercise days has you going an hour. That hour once a week along with 2 or 3 other days of doing 30 minutes, after the warm up, will have you really seeing results. Imagine that your muscles are an army from the days that war was fought with swords, shields and the spear. That first 20 minutes or that first slow mile is when your army is moving across the field to meet the enemy. When your muscles are warmed the battle can begin. This is a war you can win. Thanks for reading and becoming a positive example. Dave
