Statement by Friends of the People’s Republic of Donetsk, Madrid, Spain Given the serious internal situation in Donetsk and Lugansk, we must take a stand. We express our sorrow at the murder of Major Aleksander Bednov (“Batman”) and six members of his brigade. We also denounce the detention of several Borotba refugees in Donetsk and the persecution of numerous militants and communist cadres in the two people’s republics. The charges against them are but miserable slander. The waste that was unable to prevent the coup in Kiev is now killing revolutionary fighters of the Donbass. Since the Russian reaction are doing the dirty work of the Ukrainians and NATO, it is necessary to denounce the actions of the Russian oligarchy that is willing to use its mercenaries in Novorossiya to liquidate the antifascist militia and communists. We have always known that the class contradictions in Moscow were maximized by the revolt of the Donbass. They could not abandon the resistance to the Ukro-fascists, but neither could they consent to the overthrow of the local oligarchs and nationalization of businesses. These days internal repression focuses on the revolutionaries. There has been a backlash from conservative sectors and mercenaries serving the interests of the Russian oligarchy, who want at all costs to prevent the triumph or consolidation of revolutionary positions in the Donbass. The suspension of the offensive at the end of August, the halt to the advance that prevented the liberation of Mariupol and reaching the border of the Dnieper, were deliberate actions to save Poroshenko and prevent military defeat of the Ukrainian regime. The Minsk agreements up until today have involved the political defeat of the antifascist resistance of the Donbass and have been sponsored by the Russian oligarchy and its government. Moscow represents a different line to the West, it is true, but it coincides with the West in opposing the overthrow of the oligarchs of Donbass and the construction of socialism in the people’s republics. To crush the resistance, a clandestine battle has been waged in recent months in which they are doing their best to discredit the communist militants and the commanders most politically committed to the anti-fascist and anti-oligarchic struggle. This is the reality in Donbass right now. Units hosting European fascists of the so-called fourth position are preferred, rather than military and political consolidation of the battalions of communist volunteers. In this work, the sect known as Essence of Time, which conceals a reactionary position under supposedly pro-Soviet verbiage that is intoxicating to some leftist groups, falsely accuses communists and anti-fascist commanders of serving the enemy. It is a painful and very unfortunate situation. We express our full support to those who maintain the struggle, who have not been defeated, those who do not believe the lies and slanders and those who resist. We recognize that commander Aleksander Beknov (Batman) has fallen at the hands of traitors. To commanders of the People’s Militia in Lugansk such as Mozgovoi, who hold high the Red Banner, and all communist fighters of all stripes who have not surrendered, we give our wholehearted support.
