Statement from APP on Common Core in Georgia Yesterday the Georgia Senate Education and Youth Committee voted unanimously to reject mandated participation in the Common Core national standards. American Principles Project’s Jane Robbins has been an integral part of the grassroots effort to reclaim Georgia sovereignty over Georgia education. The legislation was sponsored by Sen. William Ligon (R-Brunswick). APP’s senior fellow Jane Robbins said of yesterdays vote: “The American Principles Project welcomes the news today that the Georgia Senate Education and Youth Committee voted unanimously to reject mandated participation in the Common Core national standards. This move establishes a transparent public process for revising K-12 standards and allows local districts to return to Georgia’s previous, superior standards in the interim. It also establishes strong privacy protections for student data. Parents and other citizens have led the charge in the fight against the Common Core and today they saw great success in Georgia. APP commends the legislators on the Committee for listening to the concerns of the people and reasserting state autonomy over education, and we hope that other states will follow suit.” For further information or to arrange an interview with Ms. Robbins, please contact Emily Cashel with Shirley & Banister Public Affairs at ecashel@sbpublicaffairs or (703)739-5920.
