Statement from Minnesota State Mankato Football Players: As a team, we are ready to get back to playing football. We are passionate about the brotherhood we have created at Minnesota State University and are also passionate about playing the game we love. We would like to clear up any misconceptions that might have arisen from yesterday. We wanted our voice to be heard yesterday about our support for Aaron Keen and for our desire for a more robust communication channel be opened between the players, Coach Hoffner and the administration about the coaching situation. We stand behind our actions and statement made, but in no way did we want our actions to undermine Coach Hoffner’s return. As a collective unit, we would like to express our sentiments to Coach Hoffner, his wife and his children who have been through an emotionally damaging journey during the last 20 months. The players are thankful for what has transpired since our decision not to practice yesterday. The athletic department, university administration and Coach Hoffner have made themselves available to us to have the opportunity to express our concerns and questions about this situation. Today at 7 a.m., we had a team meeting with all players, coaches and the director of athletics. It was a healthy conversation between all parties. The players were able to make comments and ask questions to Coach Hoffner. We received the answers we were looking for, feel fit to practice and welcome Coach Hoffner as we head toward the end of spring drills. Since we signed our letter of intents to play college football, our goal has remained the same: to play the game we love. We look forward to coming back to the practice field Friday to resume the scheduled spring ball practices and to work in collaboration with all members of the coaching staff and athletic administration. We are proud to be Mavericks.
