Statement from Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Member of Parliament, on the impending IESM Hunger Strike XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Over the past few weeks, many veterans and veteran organisations have written to me and met me to voice their concerns over the delay on the implementation of One Rank, One Pension (OROP). I have also learnt, with much apprehension, about the decision of some veterans to undertake Hunger Strike to protest this delay. This proposed Hunger Strike comes at a time when the Government has taken significant steps towards reform and critical requirements of the armed forces. As someone who has always led the cause of the armed forces steadfastly in Parliament and has been advocating for the implementation of OROP since 2006, I appeal to all veterans for restraint and patience and to give another thought to their impending actions. This is a time to stand by the newly formed Government while it takes steps to reform the badgered economy and strengthening the Nation’s security. It is my firm belief that the Narendra Modi government will enforce its commitment in implementing OROP and we must give it time until the 2015 budget. I have and will always stand by my commitment to the cause of OROP and shall continue to engage with the Government and with our Defence Minister for the speedy implementation of the same.
