Statement from RWNB re: politicians positions on shale gas and a demand those saying ban/moratorium tells us how we can afford either. Press Release from Resource Wise NB September 18 For immediate release At a meeting in Saint John Resource Wise NB members expressed disappointment that most of the party leaders have not educated themselves about the shale gas industry. Chairman Brian Cheney says,”Despite this some leaders have made public the fact they would have moratoriums on resource development without properly educating themselves. Leadership is about making sometimes tough decisions once all the facts are determined. This does not appear to be the case here. New Brunswickers deserve and expect better of those vying to lead the province to prosperity.” Group spokeswoman Lynn Farmakoulas says the members of Resource Wise NB are shocked by Liberal Leader Brian Gallant’s statement that shale could be extracted using methods other than hydraulic fracturing. “This shows a total lack of understanding about the shale industry from a party leader who says there will be a moratorium on fracing. Our group is pleased to see Corridor President Phillip Knoll step up and say to the leaders that its time for factual information about a company thats operated safely in New Brunswick for 15 years. It had to be said.” Farmakoulas went on to say that bans and moratoriums will have huge economic and social implications for the province. “We are already deep in debt. Can we afford law suits, job losses, businesses closings, and more people leaving for work in Saskatchewan and Alberta? With 40% of our provincial budget coming from transfer and equalization payments what will happen to us? We cant expect the level of services to be better; New Brunswickers will suffer. We need our party leaders to tell us what a ban or moratorium will cost us versus what developing our resources will do for us.” New Brunswickers have been the target of a well-funded and well-coordinated misinformation campaign designed to frighten the general population, according to Resource Wise NB. Members say a vocal minority funded by outside groups is influencing politicians and threatening the financial well-being of the province. Lynn Farmakoulas Spokeswoman / Communications Director
