Statement in solidarity with striking ANZ workers: We at Auckland Action Against Poverty stand in solidarity with ANZ workers in todays nationwide strike action. As a group of low-paid workers, parents, beneficiaries and students, were driven by the core belief that everyone deserves to participate fully in our society. Being able to participate fully requires that people have stable, predictable hours which allow people to do what matters most to them; be it spend time with their families or be involved in their communities. We stand alongside you in your demand for a decent pay increase, an increase which reflects the record profits of a bank which couldnt operate without your contributions and work. You are the backbone of ANZ, and you deserve to be valued as such. We know that for a few at the top, like your CEO David Hisco, no pay packet is too much. For most of us though, the cost of living is rising and the wages just arent keeping up. As you take action up and down the country today, youre a leading light for all who want to see something fairer for all. Kia Kaha striking ANZ workers, were with you.
