Statement released from Race Sonoma earlier today: FIA WTCC Event at Sonoma Raceway Cancelled - International Shipping Problems Move Event to China SONOMA, Calif. (June 13, 2014) – The ninth event on the 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) schedule, originally slated for Sonoma Raceway on Sept. 14, has been moved to China, officials have announced. The reason for the change, which is subject to ratification from the FIA World Motor Sport Council, was the cancellation of a shipping route that was scheduled to leave the Port of Oakland on Sept. 17 to transport cars and parts to Shanghai. The next vessel, leaving on Sept. 21, would not arrive at Shanghai until Oct. 7, not allowing enough time for teams to prepare for the next event on Oct. 12. In light of the transportation logistics issues, the series has rescheduled the U.S. round to Beijing’s Goldenport Circuit in China on Oct. 5. We will be sorry to miss the terrific on-track action that the WTCC has brought to Sonoma the last two years, but wish the best to everyone involved with the series as they pursue this new schedule,” said Steve Page, Sonoma Raceway president and general manager. Race fans who have already purchased tickets for the WTCC event in Sonoma have the option to exchange their tickets, on a one-for one-basis, to a 2014 event of their choice or request a complete refund. For more information or to request your refund, contact the Sonoma Raceway ticket office at 800-8870-RACE.
