Statistics Makeni Braces For Census By Abu S. Tarawalie Statistics Sierra Leone branch in Makeni City, Bombali District has for the past several weeks received hundreds of applications for the advertised vacancies of Field Officers, Supervisors and Enumerators for the forthcoming census. According to the Census Officer, Bombali District, Mr. M.C. Konteh, the applications would be thoroughly scrutinized in a transparent manner with the participation of various stakeholders including Local Councils and civil society to shortlist qualified candidates who would be further interviewed and background checks conducted before they are recruited to participate in the census. Mr. M.C. Konteh also disclosed that 13 Field Officers, 200 Supervisors and 1,000 Enumerators would be recruited which vacancies have been advertised in the various Local Councils, Radio Mankeneh and hard copies of the vacancies distributed to all Chiefdoms and towns and informed that the deadline for the receipt of all applications was 23rd January 2015. The District Census Officer furthered that public sensitization about the census would continue in Local Council meetings, churches, mosques and discussion programs in all radio stations in Bombali District. He informed that the census, originally scheduled for 4th – 19th December 2014, has been postponed to 4th April this year and commended Statistics Sierra Leone headquarters in Freetown, the Government of Sierra Leone and donors for providing the required logistics and finance for the success of the exercise which he underscored would be credible locally and internationally inspite of public concerns about the process.
