In England alone OPTA collect stats from Premier League Championship League 1 League 2 Blue Square Premier Blue Square North Blue Square South FA Cup Carling Cup Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Community Shield Northern Premier Northern Div 1 North Northern Div 1 South Isthmian Premier They can be taking stats from up to 2000 live events at a time. In football alone their data collection methods allow them to collect between 1,600 and 2,000 individual actions from every game. This is all collected and delivered live. Three expert analysts will cover each match, one collecting all of the home team actions, one the away team and a third analyst checking the data for consistency and adding additional layers of data. They collect and distribute full, time-stamped, contextual data live, featuring complete x/y coordinates (as well as z co-ordinates where applicable, such as shots in football), and a granularity of event type unique amongst data providers. Did You Know..... For Opta ball possession means percentage of completed passes, and is not a measure of time. I have to say I didnt really think they had a person at a match counting each event.... so I was surprised that they have three people at every game..... Stats are obviously big business (C)
