Status by Carlow SPCA: NEW KITTEN OWNERS In the past few days I have been made aware of several kittens all between the ages of 6 weeks - 4 months being "found" with no trace of owners. Once you get your kitten home & into the house it is YOUR responsibility to ensure that the kitten STAYS INSIDE the house until they are SIX MONTHS of age. At EIGHT - NINE weeks of age you visit your vet & begin the kittens life saving Vaccinations. At SIX MONTHS you book your kitten into the Vets to be spayed/neutered & microchipped. ONLY after the kitten has been spayed/ neutered & microchipped can the decision be made as to whether to let your kitten go outside your house. Immature kittens younger than six months of age are far too young to be let outside on their own. Apart from anything else, some female kittens can come into season at four months of age, get pregnant & by the time they are six months of age, they can have kittens of their own. Nothing is more tragic, upsetting or unnecessary than a little kitten having kittens. A six month old kitten equates to a 10 year old human child. They are not physically or mentally ready to get pregnant, give birth & rear kittens. PLEASE PLEASE keep your Kittens under six months of age INDOORS.
