Status conferences in Kenyatta case on 7 and 8 October 2014: Practical information Situation: Republic of Kenya Case: The Prosecutor v. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta On 7 and 8 October 2014 at 10:00 (The Hague local time), Trial Chamber V(b) of the International Criminal Court (ICC) will hold two status conferences in the case The Prosecutor v. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta at the seat of the Court in The Hague (Netherlands). The hearings will be held to discuss the status of cooperation between the Prosecution and the Kenyan Government and issues raised in the Prosecutions Notice of 5 September 2014, respectively. The status conferences will be held before Trial Chamber V(b) composed of Judge Kuniko Ozaki (Presiding), Judge Robert Fremr, and Judge Geoffrey A. Henderson, in the presence of the Prosecution, the Defence and the Legal Representative of Victims. A Representative of the Kenyan Government is invited to attend the first status conference and Mr Kenyatta is required to be present at the second status conference. Background: On 19 September 2014, Trial Chamber V(b) vacated the trial commencement date in the case The Prosecutor v. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, which had been provisionally scheduled for 7 October 2014, in order to have more time to consider the recent requests by the parties and participants to the trial, without prejudice to its ruling regarding those requests. The Chamber also convened two status conferences. Mr Kenyatta is charged, as an indirect co-perpetrator, with five counts of crimes against humanity consisting of murder, deportation or forcible transfer, rape, persecution and other inhumane acts allegedly committed during the post-election violence in Kenya in 2007-2008. Please note that given the expected high attendance for these hearings, individuals who have not received a confirmation email in advance cannot be guaranteed access to the hearings. However pictures will be posted on the Courts Flickr account. Audiovisual materials will be available for download on an FTP server in video (MPEG-4) and audio (MPEG-3) format after the hearings and for viewing on the official ICC YouTube Channel. Media Centre For media representatives wishing to use the Courts media facilities, the media centre will open from 08:30 until two hours after the end of the hearing. The area can sit up to 64 people and includes plasma TV screens; a Wi-Fi internet service; cards (plug + play) for those without Wi-Fi capability in their PC or laptop; 6 computers with internet access; 7 telephones that may be used free of charge for internal calls. For external calls, journalists are advised to purchase 0800 pre-paid phone cards beforehand. Such cards are available at newsagents and train stations. Please note that phone cards cannot be obtained in the vicinity of, or at, the ICC. Parking facilities Parking facilities are available for media representatives at the Regulusweg and Wegastraat car-parks. SNG trucks SNG trucks are not allowed to park alongside the ICC building, but should go to the car park located at the intersection of Regulusweg and Wegastraat.
