Status update: Travis Butt is doing well this evening. I was holding his hand this evening when he opened his eyes for 30 seconds. I lost it!!! He started getting agitated but the nurse gave him some morphine and and he calmed down. About 30 minutes later he opened his eyes again and started squeezing my hand and then tapping his fingers on my hand for about 5 minutes. Tomorrow the tentative plan is that they are going to hopefully take off his c-collar and then wake him up. If waking him up does not cause any harmful distress to him they may be able to take out the tubes. However if it does they will sedate him again and explore the option of a tracheotomy. Fingers crossed. I am already a bundle of nerves
