Status update on my first colonoscopy...The worst part was not having any food for 48 hours! Some people have said that the prep stuff taste awful well I had some type of powder that I had to mix with 64 ounces of gatorade packets they included or apple juice which I had. The powder had not taste so that was easy to take. Anyway my procedure was a 2pm this afternoon and for the many of you who said that I wouldnt remember what happened, I can tell you that I was awake for the whole procedure. The nurses and Doc were great as well as pleasant and we even had a few laughs. As I watched the procedure, she found 2 very small benign polyps which she removed but they will be sent out. She told me it was very common for people my age to have a few benign polyps. The after effects is having a lot of gas in your stomach because of the air that is inserted so I had a few cramps while in recovery and when I got home. They did say not to eat at a restaurant tonight but once I passed the gas I felt fine and just came back from having dinner at the Outback restaurant. As she was scoping my colon I asked why I wasnt groggy as I was told I wouldnt remember anything. The 2 nurses and Doc just smiled as I said that I was glad to be able to watch the procedure. To my surprise I was glad that I never felt awkward at any time as I absolutely hate being in that vulnerable hospital gown! So I guess I am writing this more as a 2 thumbs up to anyone who is reluctant to get a colonoscopy!
