Stay with me.. I know its long..First off, I want to thank Shezan Yaaseen for allowing me into her world as she celebrates her Muslim holiday Ramadan. Ramadan Mubarak by the way!!! I have done nothing but ask questions about her faith since she converted and she has been nothing short of patient and gracious to answer as much as she could.I have my alarm set to pray 5 times a day at the same times those of the Muslim faith do. I figured even though Im not Muslim, I def could use a reminder to talk to God throughout the day. Friday, while we were out, we stopped at a gas station. I saw the guy in the back GOING TO TOWN on his dinner. It was after sundown,so I already knew what was up.Now, mind you, this guy was acting as if he couldnt understand ANYTHING I was saying. He told me his English wasnt good, etc. AS SOON as I wished him Ramadan Mubarak, his face lit up, his English perfected and in that instant we were two people on the same journey. I told him I wasnt Muslim but I was fasting and praying at the times they were. He offered me food and everything. Ive never experienced anything like it..its usually let me get 90 on 3 and nothing more...but just me acknowledging his faith and showing respect for it, his viewpoint towards me changed. Just me deciding to take a walk in anothers shoes has opened up my eyes to the way I view those who are different from me. This evening when I woke up, Byrd said, I said your evening prayer for you since you were sleeping....and I didnt even tell him, he simply saw Pray with an alarm going off on my phone...thats pretty cool. My point is this....how much could our way we view and live life change if we simply take one shoe off and hand it to our neighbor? Not asking people to change or be who we are, but not automatically shutting down ideas and theories that dont mirror what we believe. How much could anothers life be impacted just by YOU deciding to take a step in another direction??? I guarantee you, even if only for a day, expand your horizons, speak to someone you never would speak to, ask a question you never would ask (with tact of course) but have always wondered about.....It will change your life....
