Staying in Greentown , Ipoh when i was a kid in the early 60s.. I ate candy floss, drank fizzy drinks, ate shaved ice with syrups ( ais kapai ) and i never heard of Diabetes. I added Salt to Pepsi and drank it.. I even cycle like an expert even when my feet could not touch the ground.. I would sit in cars with no seat belts, no booster seats and no air bags At that time i would even drink water direct from the garden tap and not from a bottle I would spend hours on the field under bright sunlight flying our kites, without worrying about the UV ray which never seem to affect me.. I would go to some deep forest areas to catch spiders and sparrows without worries of Aedes mosquitoes With 5 pebbles (stones) would be an endless game with my friends around Greentown.. With a tennis ball we would run like crazy for hours playing a game call BOH BIANG .. I even caught guppies in drains/rivers and when it rained i would catch tadpols.. I shared one soft drink with four friends from one bottle and no one actually worry about being unhygienic I ate salty, very sweet and oily food, candies, bread and real butter and drank very sweet soft coffee/tea, ice kacang, but i wasnt overweight. Because i was always playing outside... During saturday and sundays i would leave home in the morning and play all day till the streetlights came on No one was able to reach me all day and i don’t have hand-phones to bug me and i was ok and i was safe I had No cell phones, no personal computers, no internet, no Nintendo games, no DVD but i had FRIENDS! I would walk to a friend’s house and just yelled for them I fell out of trees, got cuts , broke my head and that was in the early 60s At that time we had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.. Those were the days and those days will always be my guidance to keep me moving forward with times...
