Steelers sign CFL pass rusher Shawn Lemon By Scott Brown | January 20, 2015 8:30:27 PM PST PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers made perhaps their most intriguing addition of the offseason to date when they signed Canadian Football League standout Shawn Lemon to a reserve/future contract on Tuesday. Lemon recorded 13 sacks for the Calgary Stampeders in 2014 and tied a CFL record by recovering eight fumbles. Lemon is listed at 6-foot-2, 250 pounds and projects as an outside linebacker with the Steelers. No position is fraught with more uncertainty after the Steelers went 11-5 in 2014 and won the AFC North. Three of the Steelers’ four top outside linebackers are not signed beyond 2014 and that includes Jason Worilds, who tied for the team lead with 7½ sacks last season. Lemon went undrafted coming out of Akron in 2011 and he will try to make an impact similar to Miami Dolphins’ defensive end Cameron Wake. Wake signed with the Dolphins in 2009 after starring in the CFL and he has 63 sacks in six NFL seasons, including 11½ in 2014. CFL players are not allowed to sign with NFL teams until Feb. 10, but the Stampeders granted Lemon’s release so he could sign with the Steelers.
