Step 2- Nichi is super skiddish and has acute canine agoraphobia (jk idk if that exists). I let her know Im there but I dont touch her, just pick up her leash. Just like when a person is in a highly agitated state and they need personal space, I dont invade or impose myself in nichis space. I DO engage her, so I keep her attention, but I dont create the grab her and make her submit situation if I can help it. Yes, this takes lots of time and even more patience , but I think that my devoting both to the dog Im working with is what puts me above the bar in my ability to connect with dogs. Its well worth it.
