About Khaled Khatib & Heart Of Jenin In November 2005, in Jenin, Palestine, 11 year old Ahmed Khatib was coming home from the store. He was accidently shot & killed by an Israeli soldier. His 13 year old brother Khaled joined his family in donating his organs to 6 Israeli children. This story received worldwide attention including world leaders, celebrities & a German Film Team. They filmed the family in Palestine & in Israel as they visited the Israeli recipients who received Ahmed’s organs. The film was called Heart of Jenin & produced in 2010. It won many awards in Europe and has never been publicly shown in North America. Khaled carries the Torch in Ontario for Helene Campbell Step by Step arranged to bring Khaled & his dad Ismail to Toronto Canada in November 2011. The father asked George to look after his son in Canada. Khaled agreed to carry the Torch throughout Ontario on a 4 month 72 city/town campaign to register people on the newly created registry. Before he began George introduced Khaled to Helene Campbell who needed a double lung transplant. They became best friends. At the kickoff at Queen’s Park, Khaled announced that he would be carrying the Torch for Helene and that when he finished she would have received her transplant & join him carrying the Torch to the finish line. Khaled, Helene & Yael bring the Torch to the finish line. On June 19 2012, a historic day happened as Khaled carried the Torch to the finish line at Queen’s Park in Toronto. 19 year old Israeli girl, Yael Gladstone joined Helene & Khaled in carrying the Torch together.
