Steph would love some advice: My son has been attending Sylvan - TopicsExpress

Steph would love some advice: My son has been attending Sylvan Learning Center for over a year, getting help with reading. During 1st grade he struggled and we didnt have a good teacher or school system to work with. Over last summer we relocated and my son moved on to second grade. He made huge strides to catching up and still continued with Sylvan but still struggled to read. His grades were all passing except reading. His teacher and I didnt know what else to do. He went through all the testing for special educational needs and didnt qualify for any. He was given an iq test and scored above average. This made it more difficult to pin point what the issue was. So he was tested for dyslexia. On the very last day of school this year I had a meeting with the teacher that tested him. It was short and to the point. She said he qualified for her program. Its two years long called take flight. Im still confused as he can read but not up to speed. He can write and doesnt flip letters or numbers around. I have read and researched dyslexia and I can only pick 2-3 things that he does. He started talking at 8 months old. He never babbled or baby talk. He was saying big words like instructions. He can tell me how to fix almost anything and is very detailed about things. As his mother I am at lost, I dont know how to help him. Maybe you all can share some insight.. Thank you!
